I love Christmas music. Every year, the day after Thanksgiving, we would break out the Christmas music. Now, I'm pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas music. We're talking Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, all those guys. That's truly the best stuff. But I do like Jewel's Christmas album, and I enjoy the occasional more 'pop' version of songs. I don't feel the need to have the latest Rihanna X-Mas album or the David Archuleta one, they just do not interest me.
I have the best memories of listening to Christmas tunes the day after Thanksgiving, driving up to get our Christmas tree with my extended family. I also remember listening to Bing and decorating the tree when I was a little girl. You also have to understand, my birthday is December 28. And no, I don't get overlooked at the holidays, I get just as many presents as I would I had been born a few weeks later. I am the favorite, after all. So Christmas music always makes me giddy not only because of the actual events of Christmas Eve and the day of, but of my birthday, New Year's, and having all of my family around.
This year I am listening to Christmas music, alone, while my husband is at work. I am still in my pajamas (although I put on a bra around noontime) and have made zero effort to look like a human. Needless to say, I'm a pretty sad sight. I keep getting texts from my little sister, who is San Francisco with the family. I ache for the city, it's one of my favorite holiday trips. We usually go into S.F. the day before Thanksgiving to look at the Christmas windows, shop a little, and end the day with dinner at Cheesecake Factory. I haven't been home for Thanksgiving since my freshman year of college. I'm not complaining, but I do miss it all.
