I had a great time being in L.A. with Zak and my family. My family has been going to the same motel on the beach since my dad was a baby, or even a bit before that. We stay for a whole week, go to Disneyland one day, go on a bike ride another day, and eat at a different family's room each night. I just love it! I mean, my family is a bit crazy and being so close together for a whole week almost always causes some kind of drama. But everyone have a good time. So it was nice to share that with Zak, who I probably should have prepped a little bit better before we got there. He's met my big extended family more than once, but I could have done better guiding him through the craziness that is our family vacation. But he did have a good time, despite the sunburns. I'm writing down some particular memories so I don't forget them. . .
*I was really anxious about Disneyland because I flat-out love Disneyland and Zak...does not. Even though I've been there about a dozen or so times, it's still fun. It's fun because everyone gets into it and we really make use of the whole day. We go from gates opening to closing. I was worried because Zak is not into Disney and that being around my family would drive him crazy. But we were lucky to have a couple of free hours to ourselves throughout the day which helped our nerves. One of my favorite moments from our Disneyland day was riding on the teacups with him. Normally, my dad, Jenna & Allie and I (& Aunt Kim) compete for fastest teacup. But when we went, I was not feeling up to going too fast, so Zak and I took our own teacup. Well, Zak got into it almost immediately and started spinning it really fast. Luckily, I didn't get sick; I was too busy laughing at him saying goofy things like, "Hulk go fast", "Hulk no feel good", "Hulk dizzy" in his deep voice. I was laughing so hard that I came close to falling out! It was just a random, funny moment that made me laugh for the rest of the day.
*I lovvvvvvvvvved being around all of my cute little cousins! They are just precious and super funny. The babies (Iris, Juilia, both 1) were fascinated with Zak. Iris would not let Zak put anything on her, be it sunglasses, real glasses, his hat...She wouldn't have any of it; she would just fuss and then when he stopped, she would stare at him. Babies seems to like him a lot. Well, most children of any age like Zak a lot. I think it's because he is so fun and goofy and the kids take it and run with it. It was cute watching him help out with the kids. When we had to chase down the older ones on a walk one night, he and Audri bonded a bit. He gave her a piggy back ride almost the entire time we were walking! It was fun to be able to play with and watch the kids and then awhile later, not be responsible for them. Ah, the joys of not being parents just yet...
*It was somewhat awkward rooming with my family (but at least we were not the newly newlyweds; my cousin Grant had been married to his wife Ali for 3 weeks during the vacation), and I feel bad because I don't think I fully prepared Zak for it. I knew how close and cramped the quarters were going in, and forgot to mention to Zak that we'd be sleeping on a full-sized bed 4 feet away from my parents. So even though it was super close, Zak still found time to be cute and cuddle with me. One day in particular he was just so sweet. I really did feel bad because I know he tends to get a little overwhelmed from being around lots of people, etc.--he needs some alone time and there was virtually none of that at the beach. So when he was being so affectionate, I just really appreciated him being so kind to me, even though I'm sure he was done with the vacation.
*I also loved being with my little sister. Jenna is such a fun girl that I adore. I also loved playing with her ipod touch thing that I now secretly want. I know she was missing having her big brother there, but I hoped Zak did a decent job of being an older guy looking out for her. Those two just crack me up with they're together; its like a weight's been lifted off of me because all of Zak's silliness isn't focused just on me!
*One of my new favorites is 'Grandpa Bieber'. See, Zak overheard my mom & aunt talking about their grandpa Weaver, and naturally, Zak assumed they said Bieber. As in, the biggest male pop star in the friggin' world right now? So Zak started singing Justin Bieber songs in an old man's voice and it just cracked me up. I asked him to do it repeatedly the next few days, much to his annoyance. But he was a good sport about it. It truly makes me smile, because it's such a 'classic Zak' act. Also, I guess he was doing his Grandpa Bieber routine in the pool, complete with dancing and pretended to have a minor heart attack. This is why I love the guy.
In conclusion, it was a wonderful week, filled with lots of fun and I hope we'll be able to go next year (& the following years) (with our own little room). It was nice to not have to talk on the phone with Zak and explain about the fun things; it was great being able to share one of my favorite places with him.
